Camexpo Interview: Yelena Paul, Personal Trainer & Nutritional Advisor

A8418886Full name: Yelena Paul
Job title: Founder of SomaOmnia / Personal Trainer & Nutritional Adviser
Town: Berkshire

Tell us a bit about your background and what led you into complementary medicine?

I have a masters degree in PE and a diploma in Physical Rehabilitation Exercises from Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth & Tourism, and have been on various certification programmes in the UK. Since I was 7-8 years old, I’ve been interested in competitive athletics. My father is a competitive athlete in modern pentathlons, so I used to watch him compete and prepare for competitions, hence why I have developed my deep curiosity for the industry. I could see how nutrition and the right supplements helped my father (and later, myself) to achieve a higher potential.

What do you love most about your work?

I love the constant learning and challenges in my career.

What’s your most memorable work moment?

During one of the camexpo seminars, three years ago, I met one of the most amazing nutritionists who later on I referred my client to. Through this meeting she escaped steroid medication and successfully recovered from two liver viruses!

What’s the single biggest challenge in your work?

Finding time to do business development and further studies.

What tips and advice would you give someone who is just starting their career in health care/complementary medicine?

Please have a passion for what you do – otherwise don’t do it!

How many years have you visited camexpo?

For four years now.

What was your key highlight/takeaway from camexpo 2014

I enjoyed the Proven Probiotics and the Mushroom stands – it was great to see what new product innovations are on the market.

What are you most looking forward to about camexpo 2015?

Dr Marilyn Glenville’s talk on ‘Brain Power – how nutrition can improve memory, concentration and reduce the risk of Dementia & Alzheimer’s’ and Antony Haynes’ talk on ‘Auto-Immunity & the Infection Connection’ – they are always my favourite speakers!
